Singing in the Choir

Church music has always been important to me. As a I child, standing next to my

parents and singing the hymns was what I looked forward to each week. As I got older, the

idea of music as worship really began to resonate with me. It is the music in the service that stirs me.

While I’m not a very good singer, I grew up singing at church and the two are forever

entwined. So joining the choir was an easy choice. We rehearse with Joan Waterworth,

our dedicated director, every Wednesday at 7 PM We work hard, between laughing and

joking with each other. We often seem to jeer each other section by section, altos to bass,

sopranos to tenors. Some are bold and loud while others are timid and sing softly. There are

approximately 10 regular members, and then others join us for special occasions. Joan has

recently added adventure to our choir's activities. We visited two shut-ins (Margie Rucha

and Chris McKenzie) and sang for them. We also love meeting other music lovers from

Alpine when we rehearse for Thanksgiving in Song in the fall.

The choir is always looking for new voices and welcomes new members. Notice

I say “new” not “great” I’m fairly certain that God hears the music of our souls, not our

mouths. Please consider adding your voice to ours by coming to rehearsal next Wednesday!
